Now this is Caribbean cricket!

This is Georgetown's Bourda, home of Guyanese cricket for more than a century and scene of some great cricketing moments. Slap bang in the middle of the city, its future is under a cloud because a new, modern stadium has been built for the World Cup. Just imagine the atmosphere if the matches were played here. The big problem with Bourda is that it is below sea level and floods easily. Today, when teams were supposed to be training here, parts of the outfield were under six inches of water while the new stadium had drained completely after more than an inch of rain in the past 24 hours. This picture is taken from the Members' Stand, where a tie is still de rigueur. A stroll around the ground was like entering a time warp, with a picture of King Edward addressing the nation from Sandringham on one wall! Amazing place
