Viennese sunshine but refs feel the heat

It didn't take long for life to get back to normal, but at the Euro championships it's the coaches rather than the players who are giving refs the hardest of times. Players are pretty restrained and there have only been three reds in the first 16 matches. Howard Webb, who had a tough penalty call to make in his first match, performed admirably tonight in the Spain v Greece match, using his well-known physical presence once to step in when tempers threatened to flare. I can't see why he wouldn't get another match, but the internal workings of Fifa are a mystery to most. Pictured left is a tram running alongside Vienna's Hilton Hotel, where one team or another is in residence. Today, it was the Germans checking out as I walked past to get the underground on my way to my bunker office at the Happel Stadium.
Thursday afternoon
So Howard Webb's on his way home after 2 games, probably the victim of that penalty call. Not his fault, but refs are in trouble if controversy touches them at all. Still, he's young and I'm sure many more such tournaments await him.
