It was remarkable to hear Adrian Childs and the Match of the day team speaking in hushed awe about the physical condition of Howard Webb during Sunday's match between Everton and Middlesbrough. Webb was indeed impressive, comfortably keeping up with - and sometimes overtaking - players and rarely more than 10 yards from the action.
But most of all, he is a ref at the peak of his abilities, oozing confidence in every decision he makes. Yakubu looked as though he deserved a penalty when he went down in the box. Webb was five yards away, smiling sympathetically at Yakubu and turning down his appeal at the same time. No-one argued.
Webb is indeed the country's best ref at the moment and he's likely to be reffing during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
But even he knows he's one blink away or one snap misjudgement away from being labelled as hopeless as the rest of 'em!!
