FatRef returns to the fold

Yes I know the season's been going for a while, but I've been busy and somehow lost the urge to assail you, poor readers, with my weekly tales of woe from the footy pitch. Added to that seven puppies arrived in the Haydon household.
But I'm warming to the task in the lower reaches of the Kent County League, running the line in the newly formed Invicta League and reffing in the County League. My first three fixtures of the season were all lines and I've had two middles in the past two weeks, all relatively relaxed encounters, although Saturday's encounter in south London was a little testy.
The big boys of the Premier League are also back at it, with this curiously English version of the game that is played at astonishingly high speed, a tempo that makes games riddled with mistakes yet highly entertaining. Man Utd and Chelsea's game was one such game yesterday, a white knuckled ride that left viewers drained. I was astonished to see, a few minutes from the end, two or three Chelsea players really struggling to raise a sprint - and these boys are fit. No, they were completely knackered.
How disappointing to see today's Guardian lead its sports section on Alex Ferguson complaining about Cole's foul on Hernandez near the end, when it could have written about the thrilling game. Anyway, Ashley Cole, it's quite clear, was desparately trying to block Hernandez's shot but arrived a fraction too late. But the ball was out of play so no penalty can be given.
