I'm confused. Surely Cisse goal was offside

Perhaps I'm missing something here but surely Cisse's second goal for Newcastle this afternoon should have been ruled out for offside.

When the ball was passed forwards by a Newcastle midfielder, Cisse was several yards - four or five - offside. Two players, a Liverpool defender and, I belive, Demba Ba, challenged for the ball on the edge of the area, but both appeared to miss it or one got the slightest of touches. That touch should not have made a difference to the referee's decision. It did not, surely, start a new phase of play or constitute a rebound, the usual benchmark for offside to be given.
No, the ball rolled, virtually unimpeded, through to Cisse who popped the ball home.
I look forward to being corrected on this one. Because frankly, if I'm confused, I should be ashamed of myself.
