Pedro Proenca to ref final ahead of Webb

Pedro Proenca of Portugal will referee the European Championship final on Sunday in Kiev, beating Howard Webb to the draw.

Proenca, along with Webb, has had an excellent tournament and UEFA may have felt Webb had had his fair share of major finals in recent years and that it was time to share around the riches.
Proenca, you may remember, was headbutted in the face by an angry Benfica fan in a shopping centre in Lisbon a couple of years ago and showed a lot of courage to come through that.
The 41-year-old Proenca reffed Chelsea vs Bayern in the Champions League final and did well there. Here at the Euros, he reffed Spain vs Ireland and has avoided controversy.
Webb was fourth official last night for the stunning Italy vs Germany semi which I was lucky to attend. One interesting thing from Webb's performance was that he never forgets the details.
In the second half, as an Italian substitution was being made, Webb was sharing a joke with the sub when he noticed he was wearing a ring. Webb grabbed him by the arm and would not let him on to the pitch, even with the substituted player standing next to him. Eventually the player tore the ring off his finger and gave it to Webb.
And I thought players at that level didn't try that sort of trick!
