West Brom's Ridgewell dived, but Johnson also at fault

Yep, there goes another one. Liam Ridgewell dived in the penalty area to win a penalty for West Brom against Sunderland. Referee Mike Dean had already indicated he was cracking down on simulation, booking another West Brom player in the first half.

But with the match level, Sunderland striker Adam Johnson tried a desperate tackle in the area. Ridgewell licked his lips with delight and very cleverly buckled at the knees, giving Dean every impression that Johnson had caught him, when the replays showed us there was no contact at all.
There's not much referees can do these days when players have become so good at cheating. I guess technology is the answer.
At Wigan, Reading's Taff may well have persuaded Howard Webb NOT to give him a penalty when he claimed to have been tripped. His fall was far too choreographed to look genuine, but in fact he had been caught by a clumsy Wigan defender.
