Confessions out of the way first - I'm a Chelsea fan.
However, I feel Mike Dean made some crucial errors today in the match against Man Utd at Old Trafford that swung the game firmly in favour of the home team. That said, United played with a cool assurance that bodes well for the champions.
1. Jon Obi Mikel's challenge on Evra was a foul, little more. He didn't dive in with two feet, but he did foul Evra. A yellow card at most.
2. Dean signalled 2 minutes time added on after 45 minutes and Man Utd scored after 2 minutes and 30 seconds. It's well known among referees that you don't blow for half or full time while the ball is in the penalty area (it can cause too much trouble) but it was cleared - giving Dean time to blow for half time - before it was returned for Tevez to score.
3. Rooney should have received a second yellow for his foul on Ashley Cole.
4. Joe Cole should have been sent off for his crude and cycnical foul on Ronaldo.
5. Dean made two crucial errors on penalties. Joe Cole should have been penalised in the first half in the area.
And let's not forget; contact with another player does not constitute a foul. In the 89th minute Ben Haim made contact with Louis Saha, but did not foul him. Saha took a step and hurled himseld forward. The right decision there would have been a yellow card for simulation instead of the penalty.
All in all a frustrating match for someone who supports referees. I fear that Mr. Dean realised within moments that his red card was a mistake and that that decision upset him for the rest of the match.

Its a minimum of 2 minutes of added on time not a max of 2 minutes.
