Pointless match, shocking weather, but great football

It was a pointless match in the bottom division. Being an evening fixture, half the away team arrived two minutes before kick off and to make it worse, the early spring sunshine gave way to torrential rain that brought early darkness and water puddles all over the pitch.
But do you know what? The game was an absolute belter. Both teams seemed liberated by the fact that they were not playing to gain promotion or avoid relegation and the ball zipped over the wet grass.
The score was 2-1 to the away team until the hour mark so the game was never settled completely, even though it finished 4-1. I told the skippers when we tossed that I intended to play the full 45 minutes per half, despite the weather. But as the first half wore on and the dark clouds multiplied, it became clear that we would sturggle to get 90minutes in. Halfway through the first half, I asked both captains to agree to play 40 minutes halves. Don't forget the laws do not allow one half to be shorter than the other.
With 20 minutes to go, darkness descended as the rain poured down but both teams played on manfully, producing easy on the eye foootball that made us all forget we were soaked to the skin. Strangely, with 2 minutes to play, the clouds lifted and it became lighter, light enough to play the three minutes time I would have added on.
Evening fixtures on grounds in the middle of fields are always a bit of a lottery, but congestion at this time of year means they have to be played.

didn't you read what I wrote? I said it was a great match. It was only pointless in terms of the match not having any influence on changes in position.
which team had first teamers?
