Harry Harris, what a plonker!
for persisting with the myth that there won't be decent referees until ex-professionals are pushed thrugh to take charge of matches. Harry, would these be the players who have lied, cheated, dived and dodged their way through their footballing careers? Harry made his namesake, Ron "Chopper" Harris, look like a model of liberalism when the two were invited onto Radio 4's Women's Hour "Red Nose Day" special to discuss women referees. Harry's argument was confused; women won't be any good as refs, but there again all refs are useless and ex-pros should run the game. Ron's view was a little "old-fashioned". On the other side of the argument, the young, quietly-spoken women referee presented her case superbly. Asked if she was strict with players who swear, she replied, "I stick to the Laws of the Game."
