Heart break handball? Or not?

Yes, it was a jammy goal, but, Scousers, I'm afraid that's all it was. It looks, from the replays, as though the ball definitely struck Inzaghi's upper arm from Pirla's freekick in Athens. However, that doesn't make it an offence. Law 12 (Fouls and Misconduct) clearly states it is an offence if the players "handles the ball deliberately." In this case, it's pretty obvious that Inzaghi knew nothing about it and the ball flew off his arm and into the goal. Cruel, Yes, but not an offence.

Liverpool's basic error was trying to win the European Cup without a decent striker.
