Last match - Busacca eases up

There was a clear penalty to Turkey that should have been awarded in tonight's Euro 2008 semifinal. There was also one that probably should have been awarded to Germany.
But it was Massimo Busacca's last match at the tournament and there was a distinct feeling he wanted to avoid too much controversy. Only 2 cards were awarded in a match that would probably have seen 7 or 8 at an earlier stage.
I'm not sure whether the Swiss ref is more lenient than most but that was the impression he gave on a night that was calm in Basel but stormy in Vienna. UEFA folk tried to close down the AP and Reuters offices at the Happel Stadium, but we're made of sterner stuff and stayed put.
Our offices have seen rain pouring down the insides of walls over the past 3 weeks but tonight's gale was blowing stuff all over the place. Still, it didn't get any worse and we all escaped to fight again tomorrow.
