Of all the dramtic events of the past few days, the one that caught my eye was an intriguing little incident involving Robbie Keane in the 2-0 victory over Portsmouth. Keane, having run out of play after a Spirs' attack, virtually hid himself behind the goalpost while David James prepared to kick the ball out from his hands. Sure enough James eventually dropped the ball at his feet and Keane came charging on to try and nick it and score a cheeky goal.
Panto style, the Portsmouth crowd screamed in desperation (something like 'look behind you it's the wolf)' and James fianally twigged and hacked the ball away in the nick of time.
The problem is, Keane should have been penalised. He can't do what he did. It's one thing if a player's natural momentum takes him out of play and he re-enters. It's another altogether if he leaves the field of play and sets out to deceive the opposition by staying off the field.
He re-entered the field of play without the referee's permission and should have been cautioned, in my humble opinion.
